**applications now closed (Apr 24)- please check at a later date for a new deadline **

We offer a monthly membership for keen non-professional ceramic makers, and have outlined the details below. There are three options to suit different levels of interest and commitment. All include basic materials for handbuilding or throwing – stoneware clay, slips and glazes; use of small tools, wheels, workbenches, bats, pressmoulds, shelf space for work in progress, and a small area for storing tools and glazes. You must have at least a basic level of knowledge/experience, for example having attended a course over several weeks, and be able to confidently work independently. While we are happy to answer occasional questions/offer support and help with practical things it is self directed. Tuition is available for specific areas- ask us for details.

Members need to bring their own apron (and towel if throwing). We would also recommend that you build up your own set of small tools to bring in- we can advise where to buy them. We mix our own range of slips and glazes in the studio, and recycle the clay for you. If you want slabs for building with you will need to prep these yourself in advance. We are not able to accommodate slipcasting, mouldmaking, or those throwing large amounts/making very big pieces. Please also be aware that there may not always be a wheel available at every session. For those that are throwing or using our pressmoulds, we politely ask you limit the amount that you keep and fire. This keeps our costs down so we don’t have to charge extra for materials and firing, and minimizes environmental impact.

Slots are booked in advance through eventbrite – each slot is three hours. There are 5 spaces per session. Usually there are 3 or 4 sessions each week (Tues to Sat), sometimes back to back, and you are welcome to book two sessions in one day. If the studio is closed for holidays, for example over Christmas, there will be extra slots before and after. There is workspace for each person and areas allocated for handbuilding/decorating, throwing and glazing– please be considerate of other members (and us!) and the space you are using. Allow 10 minutes before the end of the session to wrap/label your work, clean the wheel, put scraps into recycling, and wipe the bench down.

Your work will be fired for you, and please note we only fire work that is made at the studio, not elsewhere. You are welcome to buy additional commercial glazes/underglazes – we will advise where and what to order as they will need to be compatible with our firing temperatures and clay.

Payment should be set up as a monthly SO or regular payment either on the 1st or the 15th of the month. A months notice is required to leave the membership.

Spaces are limited, and due to the volume of inquiries we now have an application form for those who are interested in joining. The current deadline has passed but we will add a new deadline date soon. The application form is below, and if you would like more info before applying or want to arrange a visit to the studio please get in touch.
